The return of our biggest event the Stowmarket Grand Prix 2024 once again sponsored by the fantastic K.Levell & Sons who have supported us for the last 3 years and our equipment sponsors Target Darts who have been with us since the very beginning and without whom this wouldn't be possible.
Last year was a record GP for us in terms of turn out and payout with well over £4000 in prize money over the 10 qualifying weeks and finals night,
Massive thanks must go to our venue hosts Pete and Janine at Cedars Park Aviary who continue to support us in the GP and all our other events.
Remember folks there is no restriction on who can play this is an open event to all, and with an added bonus of the 100% comp for those that don't qualify for the top 16 this really is not to be missed
Well what a night for the Grand Prix finals 2023, standard was unreal all night. The night started with a bang with table topper Henry Cutting meeting PDC star and 2 time Grand Prix winner Stephen Burton in the last 16, the game didn't disappoint with Henry coming through a high quality affair 4-3 with an impressive 30.08 average, also starting the night off well Frankie Ansell sore off the in form Ian Plumb 4-2 with a 29.71 ave, 2 time defending champion Kevin Edwards beat finals debutant Lee Morning 4-2 and James Wilkinson played superb to beat 2022 runner up Tony Lincoln 4-1. In the top half of the draw Darren O'Neill brought out his A game at the expense of Fozzie Lewis 4-0, while much fancied Ash Coleman started well beating Andrew Crain 4-2, Bury Open winner Gary Butcher started his night with a great win 4-1 over fellow Suffolk star Dan Brown, Kyle Bloomfield making up the quarter finalists beating Stewart Thompson by the same scoreline.
Into the quarters and Darren O'Neill was clinical on the doubles in taking out the in form Ash Coleman 4-2, while Gary Butcher ended the hopes of local man Kyle Bloomfield with an impressive 4-1 victory. In the bottom half Frankie Ansell recorded his second 29+ ave of the night ending Kevin Edwards reign as champion in a 4-2 victory, favourite Henry Cutting making up the semi finals beating good friend James Wilkinson 4-1.
Into the semi finals and Darren O'Neill night came to an end being beaten 5-0 by Gary Butcher who seemed to be improving every round, he would meet Henry Cutting who came through one of the matches of the night to beat Frankie Ansell 5-4.
Into the final and Gary started off well breaking the throw to take a 1 nil lead, leg 2 is a nervy affair with Henry breaking back to level up at 1 all, Henry then takes the next 2 legs in 16 and 17 darts respectively to take an early 3-1 lead, with the next few legs shared Henry looks odds on to take a comfortable win with a 5-3 lead. But you can never right off the talent of Gary Butcher as back to back 15 darters take us into a final leg decider for the crown, the final leg of the 2023 Stowmarket Grand Prix and you could cut the tension with a knife both players scoring well but obviously trying not to make big errors a 140 near the end and a 76 finish with Gary sitting on 96 gives Henry the Title and the £1000 first prize.
An awesome 2023 Stowmarket Grand Prix with record numbers of entries and over £4000 paid out in prizes we can't wait to see you all again in 2024
We once again return to Cedars Park for the return of the Big One our Grand Prix 2023, once again sponsored by K.Levell & sons and Target Darts, without whom we would struggle to offer such a great event, last year was our biggest overall payout ever and this year should be even bigger, With our hosts putting up £100 for the player who tops this years points table and also some surprise cash loyalty prizes on finals night(all to be revealed on night 1). weekly prizes as always and the added bonus of our 100% comp for all those who attend every week but miss out on the top 16, entry is still just the bargain price of £5 per week, with all money going into the prize pot, we can't wait to see you all on night 1 for what's sure to be our best year ever.
Darren & Kara
2022 turned out to be our biggest ever, the Grand Prix moved to our fantastic new home at Cedars Park Aviary, the venue is bigger and better in every way, good job as we had record numbers turning out every week, with 99 different players attending over the 10 weeks,.
Henry Cutting topped the points table with 4 wins over the 10 weeks and a total of 55 points, he was followed in 2nd place by 2019 champion and Mr consistency Kevin Edwards, the top 16 was made up of some serious talent including many former tour card holders, county superstars and some up and coming youngsters in the mix, unfortunately table topping favourite Henry sustained an injury in the week leading up to finals which meant he had to play wearing a protective boot, this didn't stop him making the semi finals though losing out to the ever consistent Tony Lincoln, Tony would meet Kevin Edwards in the final, after surviving a scare in the quarter finals when Jason Elvin had match darts to beat the reigning champ, Kevin then went on to beat in form Gary Butcher in the semi final, the final was a high scoring affair with Kevin showing real quality to retain his title with a 6-0 win and a 31.98 average to become the first player to defend the Stowmarket Grand Prix title. Massive thanks must go to Janine, Pete and the team at Cedars Park Aviary for making us so welcome and we look forward to a long partnership, also thanks to this years main sponsor K Levell and Sons and our board sponsors Target Darts without this support the event just wouldn't be possible.
